Some History on the Ayslum.
St Crispins was a large Psychiatric Hospital on the outskirts of Duston Village.
The grounds incorporated a large farm complex, gas works, burial ground and a number of cottages for the attendants and other staff for the site a large residences for the superintendent, farm, bailiff, head gardener a chaplain and steward.
The most distinctive feature of the site was the water tower, visible for a considerable distance and decorated with a clock on each face even to this day it is still standing and very distinctive.
St Crispins Hospital briefly entered the news when a fire broke out and killed six patients who were resident in the Schuster Ward, within the main building.
This was a great explore lots of beautiful architecture and the details were also a beautiful site. This was yet another site you could almost feel the sadness radiate from the buildings and rooms. The water tower with the clock faces was amazing a beautiful piece of architecture.
Sad to see another site go to ruin.
